| DEATH
MAX RANK:
Being Nico's half-brother on the Roman side of the family is basically the only reason he trusts and likes Derek right off the bat. He's seen him around Camp Jupiter when he took Hazel there, and most of the time gave Derek a friendly enough greeting whenever he visited. Honestly, Nico doesn't think that it'll take long for him to like and trust Derek to the same degree he trusts Percy, Annabeth, and Hazel. His only regret is not getting to know his older brother sooner.
After telling Derek about some of his concerns about Hazel during Thanksgiving, and then trusting him with the knowledge of the events that led to the death of his mother, Nico feels like he can relax a bit around him. He doesn't mind that his older brother is also a werewolf, he loves him all the same. Derek is basically really cool, especially after offering to help Nico find the rest of their siblings in the mortal world.
Nico told Derek basically everything about his past and his fears and the fact that he has a crush on two guys. One of those crushes is fading, but he's freaking the fuck out over the other one because. Now he knows for sure this isn't a fluke. And Derek was there to help him get through all that fear and disgust and shame. Not one bad word was thrown at Nico, much to his surprise and relief. Now, Nico will pretty much do anything for his older brother, and damn anyone who insults Derek with intention to do harm. Because Nico will wreck your shit.

RANK:
When Nico first sees Callie using the Iris Messaging system, he isn't really bothered by her blunt and venomous words. He's said hurtful things before to the people he cares about, and definitely to people he doesn't want to get close to. He feels that the two of them are similar in a lot of ways, though Nico isn't sure what ways those are. He's willing to listen to her if she ever needs a late-night talk. Nico more than many knows what it's like to lose what's important, and to be wary of those who try to get close. He knows how it is to fear getting close to someone and have them snatched away in an instant, literally or figuratively.
During Thanksgiving, the two had something of a sharing session. Callie revealed some of her life and motives to Nico, and he told her about Bianca's death. He feels like he can trust her, and goes so far as to offer to go with her if she ever leaves camp to fight Gaea on her own. He'll stay if she asks him to, though.
Callie, why do you ping him so hard? Gods of Olympus, girl.

RANK:
Jehan...confuses the hell out of him. He's kind, sincere, and honest, and the first time properly meeting him is kind of a weird experience. Nico isn't sure about him or whether he trusts him or not. However, Jehan did make a good first impression, even if it's strange for someone to be genuinely glad for a son of Hades to be back at camp. He's more used to people giving him a wide berth for being "creepy." Still, Nico will reserve judgment on Jehan.
He kind of lost his temper at Jehan during Thanksgiving. Being called a friend is a touchy subject, and the last thing he wants is for a guy like Prouvaire to suffer. He doesn't want Jehan to end up hurt or killed, and he definitely doesn't want the guy to get close enough that rejection will feel like a deep betrayal. Still, it doesn't excuse how much of a brat and hypocrite he was, and he apologized for it. And then he got a hug out of it. Nico isn't sure why he let him, but he did and he's so unsure with everything about this kid that he has a hard time coming to terms with it.
Now, the son of Hades has been forced to acknowledge that he has a crush on the son of Demeter, and it's only growing stronger the more he talks to him. This rather forceful realization causes him to have a bit of a meltdown in front of his older brother. Jehan has also been informed of Nico's crush on Perseus fucking Jackson, and just. Gives him good advice and much needed support after a week of hell dealing with it on his own. To say that Nico will do anything for Jehan at this point would be an understatement. Jehan has earned all of his trust and loyalty, with exception to the matter of his personal feelings to the Demeter councilor. Yeah.

RANK:
Have to admit, fastest bonding Nico has ever done with a person who isn't part of his family. Granted, bonding over being younger siblings and the fact that she's dating the Egyptian god of funerals is a pretty fast way to get into his good books. Seriously, if she's dating Anubis, then being friends with a son of Hades is pretty much nothing.
After the IM that got Sadie to cry, he can't help feeling awful on her behalf for it. He's unable to do anything about it until Thanksgiving, though, and he's glad that he was able to make her smile a lot during dinner. Nico just kind of sucks at the comforting thing, especially if tears are involved. He kind of. Panics.
Nico has gotten to the point where he thinks of her as one of his best friends. Like Dave, she can easily distract him when there's something he doesn't want to think or talk about, and she has an unnerving ability to sense when that's the case. Nico genuinely likes her and, in his head, will admit that she's a friend. He knows he'll have to give her a chance with telling her about his secret, but he doesn't have the courage right now.

MAX RANK:
So, when Hazel arrives, it basically heralded a week of happy Nico. He even forgot about how much the argument with Percy pissed him off and scared him to death. He loves Hazel very much, even though they haven't really known each other for very long. Nico doesn't care at all that she's Roman; all he's ever cared about was the fact that she is his sister. His dearest wish had been to have a sister again, and Hazel has been the answer to the wish. He wouldn't trade Hazel for anyone, not even Bianca (though it will cause pain if he ever has to make that choice).
He has, however, been unexpectedly forced into telling her that he's not. Into girls. Despite reassurances that she still loves him, Nico just isn't sure about it. It terrifies him that he might lose her, but he will respect her if she chooses to cut him out of her life. Of course, this proves to be unfounded, as Hazel will genuinely love him no matter what.
